Philosophy of Practice

My philosophy in working with clients is rooted in the I-Thou relationship articulated by Martin Buber. The I-Thou relationship is one in which both parties engage in a mutually respectful dialogue which enables the full potential of the person to safely emerge despite prior trauma and disappointment. As early wounds and deficits appear they can be reprocessed and healed within the deep acknowledgment and acceptance of the sacred therapeutic relationship. Whether a child, a teen or an adult, the client grows by developing an increasingly positive appreciation of him/herself and also learns tools for self-care that enhance his/her capacity to negotiate the requirements of life.
